Hurricane on the sea

Yesterday evening, between six and seven hours, the brig-goëlette " the Frédéric ", captain ANTONI, loaded wood of construction, coming from the Padulella where bad weather had stopped him to completing its loading, having missed passes of the old harbor, has been launched by the force of wind and the airstream on the rocks of the breakwater north and broken in pieces, to the same place where sank steam "the Louise".
To the sound of the impact and screaming of the equipage, fires have been light on the breakwater and helps immediately organized, in spite of the state of the sea.
Two of our fellow citizen, CARDI Antoine-Louis, woodworker, and Aniset BERNADINI, only listening to their courage and to the risk of their life, are thrown himself to water and were happy enough to save two men of the equipage.
One mentions us of other citizens as being distinguished especially in this sad event: it is MRS. Noel GRANAROLO, Vincent SISCO, Dominique FUSELLA and François CICCHETTO. Other peoples contributed to the lifesaving, but we could not have procured ourselves their names.
The equipage was composed of the captain and six men : five could only have been saved : the captain and the novice perished.
The captain Antoni is from our city; it was an experienced seaman and of a big composure. He was aged of 60 years and father of a numerous family. His death will be regretted briskly by all our naval population. The ship nearly belonged in whole to the unhappy captain, and for a part to Mrs. POGGI widow.
