MASSIANI

Arms : The Massiani can carry coat of arms ancient of Marquis of Massa; of which they are descended, as the Malaspina and the Marchesi.
The Massiani family of Novella would be descended to the XIV° century of Idaldo of Massa, cadet of Marquis of San Colombano, which would be established to the castle of Poretto to Lama, after his marriage with a Cortinchi of Bozio. His descendants occupied a distinguished rank during the occupation of Corsica by Genoese, as three Massiani were Podestats of Bastia : Marcantonio Massiani in 1577-78 ; Simon'Giovanni Massiani in 1598-99 ; another Massiani in 1660-61. The second Podestat must be the same person that the Captain Simon'Giovanni Massiani of Bastia, that was proxy of Istria Lords, at the time of a litigation with their vassals in 1602 (Origin e discendenza della famiglia Cotonna d'Istria). He was also bachelor in Law since he is mentioned like lawyer registers to the bar of Bastia in 1586.

The Massiani of Lama, same family that the Massiani of Novella, carry arms of a homonymous house of Tuscany, very old, and that seems nowadays extinct : from azure to the chevron of silver, loaded of three roses of muzzles, and escorted in chief by two flowers of gold lily surmounted of a muzzle lambel.
This branch of the Massiani gave notably Marsilio Massiani, Captain of Genoese militia, in the beginning of the XVIII° century, and Pier Domenico Massiani, Archidiacre of the Sainte-Marie church of Bastia.
The family is represented currently by master Stéphane Massiani, Notary to Ollioules (Var), Lieutenant-colonel (H), Knight of the honor Legion, Officer of the National order of the Merit, Cross of War 1939-45.
